A neighborhood of Standard yards

County records date 93% of Dellview homes to the 1950s, and the lots came out close to the same size: half of them fall between 0.16 and 0.18 acre. That holds on Trudell, Savannah, Saratoga and Beryl, and on the animal streets too: Eland, Gazel, Addax and Lemur.

So nearly every Dellview home is our Standard yard: $50 a visit weekly, $55 every other week or $70 for a one-time cut. City rules that apply here

Dellview is inside San Antonio city limits, and the Dellview Area Neighborhood Association is a volunteer group, not an HOA. So the city code is the rulebook for your lawn.

• Grass: on any lot under three acres, weeds and grass over 12 inches are a public nuisance. After a notice you get seven days to cut it (Sec. 14-61), and fines start at $100 (Sec. 14-63).
• Brush and bulky items: the city picks each up twice a year. A door hanger tells you your week 7 to 10 days ahead. Piles go within 8 feet of the curb, 8 cubic yards at most.
• Clippings and leaves: the green organics cart takes grass, leaves and yard trimmings every week. No plastic bags.
• Water: SAWS watering rules apply. In a drought stage your sprinkler day is set by the last digit of your address.

We keep your grass far below that 12 inch line, edge every drive, walk and curb, and blow the clippings off before we leave.

We are based in 78213, the same ZIP code as Dellview. The neighborhood association’s history page says Dellview was first developed by George W. Delavan and W. H. Barns, with builders like Wonder Homes working east of Vance Jackson. You know the landmarks: Dellview Park and its city pool on Basswood, Dellview Elementary and St. Gregory the Great on Dewhurst, and the Granados Center on Vance Jackson, which became the area’s community center when the old Gillespie property turned into a shopping center.
