Mostly Large yards, and some big ones

Oak Park-Northwood sits inside Loop 410 between N. New Braunfels and Harry Wurzbach. The neighborhood association dates it to the early 1950s and says H. B. Zachry began building Northwood Estates in 1955. County records fit: more than half of the homes here were built in the 1950s.

Lot sizes change from street to street. On Northridge, Larkwood, Woodcrest and Oakleaf the typical lot is about a quarter acre, which is our Large yard at $60 a visit weekly. About one lot in six is 0.20 acre or less and pays our Standard price. On Country Lane, Robin Rest and Haskin the typical lot is close to half an acre, so those homes land in Extra large at $70 a visit weekly, or get a custom quote once they pass half an acre.

Oaks, leaves and the green cart

The association describes lots lined with oaks over 100 years old, and old oaks mean leaves. Here is what the city takes:

• Green organics cart: leaves, grass and yard trimmings, every week. No plastic bags. Tree trimmings go in only if they are no longer than the cart is tall.
• Paper-bagged leaves: when the fall drop outruns the cart, call 311 and ask for a special leaf pickup.
• Limbs and brush: the city brush collection comes twice a year, up to 8 cubic yards within 8 feet of the curb.

Every visit we blow the leaves and clippings off the drive, walks and curb. If you want the fall leaves gone for good, a yard cleanup clears them in one visit.

Northwood Elementary on Pike Road, Woodridge Elementary, Saint Pius X on Robin Rest, and Northridge and Camille Price Memorial parks all sit inside the neighborhood lines. We also mow in Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills and Castle Hills.
